The Football Club in Manchester Business & UK Resources

The Football Club has reaffiliated to the Maccabi Union of Great Britain when South Manchester Maccabi were last members in approximately 1957. This creates the tremendously exciting umbrella for the Football Club to offer multiple sports for, be they boy or girl, father or mother, together with a bonding with the Educational and Social needs of the South Manchester Jewish Youth Trust. Our juniors in the Football Club range from Under 6s right through to Under 15s, covering teams, and it still sees us with, this past season, very strong Senior and Junior sections. The Football Club has always prided itself on its Family Traditions with Abadis, Daviss, Levers and Cohen brothers being a few examples of where whole families participated within the Club. Brothers form one part of the club and it is very pleasing to see Sons also now taking over the mantles of their fathers past glories. Professional Football has changed out o all recognition since e last wrote in our 40th Anniversary brochure. Amateur Football has also suffered under the pressures brought to bear through commercial and sociological channels, but we must never forget why the Manchester Jewish Soccer League was formed in the first place, which was to provide competitive sport for Jewish athletes. The Football Clubs strength has been its friendship and sportsmanship and the veterans gettogether in 1998 proved the point 28 players ranging in age from 14 to 61 playing in a mud bath celebrating a 2 2 draw, indeed saw the boys together again. This really was what it was all about and will continue to be what it is all about, as long as this friendship and sportsmanship are put first, even if it means the sacrificing of results. And it often does
