Some years ago, out of personal interest, I began to research just how many places in the world were named Manchester. I had imagined half a dozen or so but the more I delved the more Manchesters came to light until I had discovered over fifty. Each has its own story to tell and none more so than my home town of Manchester, England which can date its origin to Roman times. I researched all the Manchesters using reference books, letters over two hundred, the telephone, emails and the internet.
