It started in 1982 as a supposed one off event, in an effort to raise funds for a local community organisation. The Royal Navy Field Gun competition, known as the toughest team sport in the world, was used as the basis for the scheme. We recruited young people off the streets in an effort to challenge them and to target their energies. The original event held on the Dam Head Estate, Blackley, Manchester, was so successful, it was decided to continue with the project. Since then we have sent teams all over the country to thrill audiences at numerous outdoor shows. The biggest challenge by far in our 23 year history was to take a team to Ladysmith, South Africa, in February 2000, to display and take part in the centenary celebrations of the siege of Ladysmith, The township which saw the birth of the Royal Navys field gun competition. In 1998 we became a registered charity. There are still ambitions left to achieve, and all efforts to attain these are being pursued by the organisers, could you be a part of that ?
