Lowry Strings is an Adult String Group based in Salford area of the UK. The group was formed in the 1970s by Colin Green, the musical director, due to interest from parents waiting for their children during violin lessons. After running for 15 years, it lapsed and was restarted in about 1990 as part of the Salford Music Service. When Colin left the service in 1999, he continued with the group and it was officially launched as Lowry Strings Group. Following a grant from the National Lottery in 2002, a beginners section was formed and the players from this are now beginning to join the main ensemble. All new members get the first four weeks free of charge After this fees are paid on a termly basis, payable on the first week of term. The amount varies depending on the length of the term and the expenses that we expect to incur. The main expenses include the hire of the room, Colins fees as musical director and the cost of sheet music. If you cannot pay the full terms fees, you may pay every half term, but we would be very grateful if you could avoid this option as it makes fee collection more complicated.
