The Choir has existed continuously for over 60 years having been formed in April 1946, when as a result of an impromptu lunchtime meeting at the former Irlam Steelworks the 32 founder members gathered at Cadishead Congregational Church and created The Irlcadians later renamed Irlam Male Voice Choir. Throughout all these years the same enthusiasm has existed and we continue to strive for a high standard of music making. The keynote of our hobby is enjoyment and we hope this is evident in our performances. Over the years the choir has performed in a variety of locations ranging from the modest residents lounge of a group of retirement apartments to great concert halls. Some of the latter have included the Royal Albert Hall London, the Free Trade Hall, Bridgewater Hall and M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, also the Opera House in Blackpool. In 1993 the choir took part in the World Choir event at Cardiff Arms Park were, under the batton of Owain Arwel Hughes and accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, about 8000 male voices sang their hearts out in the wind and rain the star of the show was Shirley Bassey; a local girl. More recently we provided reception music at a Gala Dinner held in the International Suite, Manchester United Football Club celebrating the Centenary of the Trafford Park Industrial Estate.
